MANILA, Philippines - A majority of Filipino voters did not vote for 12 senators in the recent elections.
A report of the Random Manual Audit Committee (RMAC) of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) showed that Filipino voters voted for an average of seven senatorial bets in the May 13 polls.
“Registered voters from the National Capital Region (NCR), on the average, included 10 senators on their list,†said RMAC member and National Statistics Office (NSO) chair Carmelita Ericta.
The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), Caraga and Region 8, on the other hand, voted for an average of five senatorial bets.
Voters from Region 4-A voted for nine senators; Region 1 and Region 3 voted for eight; and Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR), Region 2, Region 4-B, Region 6, Region 10, Region 11 and Region 12 elected seven.
Voters from Region 5, Region 7 and Region 9 voted for six while Region 8, ARMM and Caraga chose only five senators. – With Aurea Calica
