MANILA, Philippines - The social arm of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is forming an alliance of religious groups that would work against human trafficking.
Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo yesterday said that this is the first time that the CBCP-National Secretariat for Social Action, Justice and Peace (NASSA) is organizing such a project.
CBCP-NASSA plans to get the support of the CBCP, National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) and the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC) to support the anti-human trafficking cause.
“We want to join forces together so right now we are starting the pre-organization meeting and then we would try to firm up how this cooperation would be done,†Pabillo said.
He also said that the CBCP-NASSA hopes to finalize the collaboration during the Freedom Forum set this September.
Over the years, there have been reports of children falling victim to human trafficking, particularly child labor and prostitution. There have been reports of children missing, children used as drug couriers and young teenagers becoming prostitutes.
There are also cases when babies are taken abroad for adoption and instances when children are forced to become organ donors.
