PNP to distribute first tranche of 59,904 guns
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) may start the distribution of the first 12,000 units of Glock17 Generation 4 to the police force by next week.
PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said the firearms passed the qualification, including documentation, conducted by members of the technical working group (TWG).
The Trust Trade joint venture with Glock won the P1.198- billion contract to supply the firearms to the PNP. It involves 59,904 pistols – the biggest gun procurement program in the history of the PNP – and is seen as a step closer to filling its handgun requirement by 100 percent.
Under the contract, the first tranche will be delivered within 150 days; second tranche, within the next 120 days; third, in the next 120 days; and the remaining two tranches, 90 days after.
Officials said the PNP would save about P200 million from the deal because they would only pay P997,997,045.76 or P16,659.76 for each firearm.
