Gov't investigates PSG involved in heist

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Presidential Security Group (PSG) and local police are investigating the recent robbery incident in Quezon City which allegedly involved two PSG members, PSG Commander Colonel Ramon Dizon said here Friday.

Colonel Dizon said in a press briefing that PSG is cooperating with the Quezon City Police Department in the investigation and President Benigno Aquino III is receiving regular updates.

Dizon said the PSG leadership would not tolerate wrongdoing among its members; however, it was too early to say whether the two PSG members were really involved in the heist because the investigation had not finished.

Although there is an alleged involvement in criminality of two of its members, Dizon clarified that it is not the organization that committed the mistake, and only the two people who belong to the organization.

Since the investigation is still ongoing, Dizon said the soldiers' rights must also be protected and the PSG has sent its lawyer to assist them in whatever legal battle they will face in the future.

Corporal Bobby Ates and Sergeant Marvin Gaton, both of whom are PSG members, allegedly robbed an auto shop in Quezon City Thursday midnight together with three other suspects. They are currently at the custody of the Quezon City Police Department.
