Noy names new tax appeals court judge

MANILA, Philippines - With the elections and the ban on new appointments over, President Aquino has named a new associate justice of the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) and two others in separate branches of government.

Quezon City Judge Ma. Belen Ringpis Liban was named to replace Associate Justice Olga Palanca-Enriquez. 

Prior to her stint in the judiciary, Liban served as solicitor at the Office of the Solicitor General and an attorney at the Court of Appeals.

Teresita Hatta was named executive director of the central bank Board of Liquidators, vice Leopoldo Abad Jr. 

Hatta’s term will be coterminous with that of Aquino, or until June 2016.

The 68-year-old Hatta is a certified public accountant who had served at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in various capacities for the last 16 years. One of her posts was assistant governor for Systems and Methods Office. She also served with the old Central Bank of the Philippines for 21 years.

Hatta also worked for SGV and Co. for six years.

Aurora Javate-de Dios was named Philippine representative to the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children for a term of three years. The agency is under the office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Aquino’s last appointments, made on April 18, were that of lawyers Al Parreño and Louie Tito Guia as new commissioners of the Commission on Elections.
