Batangas voter dies of heart attack

Alexis Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Performing his civic duty apparently proved too taxing for a 76-year-old man, who died of cardiac arrest after casting his vote in Tanauan, Batangas.

Luis Manalo collapsed as he was leaving the polling precinct in Barangay Gelerang Kawayan. He was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m.

Authorities said Manalo might have suffered from the excessive heat.

“He was able to cast his vote,” Senior Superintendent Rosauro Acio, director of the Batangas Provincial Police Office, told a press briefing at police headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
