The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippine (Xinhua) - Three people were killed, and eight others wounded in an attack by a group of armed men last night in Zamboanga del Sur.

Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca, spokesman for the Zamboanga peninsula regional police, identified  the fatalities as Dionisio Manos, 67; Vivencio Balido, 47; and Julito Isig, 20.

"Initial investigation revealed that the victims were at Bauso Building when an undetermined number of suspects arrived and shot them with no apparent reasons with the used undetermined caliber of firearms and fled after the incident," Huesca said.

He said the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m., local time in Buboan village. Policemen providing security to a nearby polling center responded to the emergency.

The police are investigating who staged the ambush and if this is related to the midterm elections being held Monday.
