9 dead in Quezon highway accident

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Nine people died when a passenger bus collided with a passenger tricycle in Quezon province this morning, police said.

The fatalities were four children and five adults including the tricycle's driver, said Quezon police spokesman Edcille Canals.

Canals said the driver of the killer Aranda Bus, named Albert Palmiano, had been taken into police custody for filing of charges.

According to initial investigation, the bus heading for Bicol region in the southeastern part of Luzon Island overtook another bus along Maharlika Highway in Biyan village at 7:25 a.m., but hit the tricycle on the opposite lane.

Canals said the tricycle was dragged by the bus about 56 meters from the impact area, resulting in the death of the nine people aboard the tricycle, which suffered a total wreck.
