MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay will attend the miting de avance of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) at 6 p.m today at the Tala Glorietta in Barangay 188, Caloocan City.
UNA also held a back-to-back miting de avance yesterday in Manila and Makati.
Former President Joseph Estrada, a candidate for Manila mayor, held the huge rally in Moriones, Tondo to be with the common people and express solidarity with the Filipino masses.
Estrada, Binay and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile attended the Tondo rally and joined UNA’s nine senatorial candidates re-electionist Sen. Gregorio Honasan, San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito, Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile, Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay, Nancy Binay, Tingting Cojuangco, former senators Richard Gordon, Ernesto Maceda, and Migz Zubiri.
Binay also attended the Makati rally.
The UNA miting de avance also focused on the mayoral bid of former President Estrada and his running mate incumbent Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno.
Local candidates of UNA from the various districts of Manila also joined the rally.
“The Filipino voters today are no longer being influenced by political surveys. They are more aware of the issues and have come to appreciate the importance of looking into the track record, credentials, credibility, and integrity of candidates. Filipinos are now intelligent voters so they know how to decide and who to choose appropriately during elections,†said Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco, UNA secretary-general and campaign manager.
The latest survey in Manila indicated that Estrada and Moreno are leading their respective rivals in Manila.
Estrada and Moreno both expect the votes to reflect the true sentiment of Manileños in the elections on Monday.
The city of Manila has more than 1 million registered voters, and UNA believes that a victory in Manila for Estrada and Moreno shall equate to significant votes for the UNA senatorial bets.
Tiangco also warned the Liberal Party-led administration coalition Team PNoy not to use the “cheat tactics†of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Tiangco claimed that political operators that used to work with the Arroyo administration and were the ones responsible for cheating the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. in the 2004 presidential elections are now reportedly active again.
He said that UNA would be closely monitoring the polls in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and the rest of Mindanao, as well as in Western and Central Visayas, which are likely targets of special operations.
