Ligot posts P66,000 bail for perjury

MANILA, Philippines - Facing multiple perjury charges before the Sandiganbayan, former military comptroller Jacinto Ligot yesterday posted bail in the amount of P66,000.

The bail bond covered all 11 cases filed by the Office of the Ombudsman against him for allegedly making false declarations in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth from 1993 to 2003.

Ligot, a retired lieutenant general, appeared before the Sandiganbayan First Division where he also submitted photographs and fingerprint samples.

The anti-graft court issued an arrest warrant and a hold departure order against him on Thursday after finding sufficient basis to do so based on the results of a preliminary investigation conducted by the Office of the Ombudsman.

Ligot is also facing forfeiture cases in other Sandiganbayan courts for alleged unexplained wealth.

The perjury cases lodged against him last month accuse him of failing to declare numerous assets in his SALN when he was still in active military service.
