(UPDATE) 2 policemen escape abductors in Agusan

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - Two policemen who were kidnapped by suspected members of the leftist rebel group New People's Army (NPA) in Agusan del Sur managed to escape last night, police confirmed today.

Regional public information officer Police Superintendent Martin Gamba said the two policemen were able to grab an AK-47 rifle from one of the rebels and shot two of them fatally.

Gamba said the two policemen who were kidnapped on April 14 were held by the NPAs at the vicinity of Maitum village in Loreto town.
