Beirut-based migrant worker dies, DFA looking for OFW's relatives

The Department of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the next-of-kin of  overseas Filipino worker Alma Faburada Mintalar that she died of cardiac arrest in Beirut, Lebanon on Feb. 23, 2013.

Mintalar, whose last known address was in Cebu City, worked as a babysitter for almost three years. Her contract was supposed to end last month, DFA said.

"A post mortem examination of her body showed that the heart attack might have been triggered by her excessive intake of the drug Actifed, contrary to her doctor’s advice. The drug was meant to cure an infection in her respiratory track. There were also no signs of physical violence or abuse," the state agency said.

Her remains are currently being kept at the Beirut General Hospital and the cost of repatriation will be charged against her insurance policy, DFA said.

Her next-of-kin are advised to fill-out a letter of acceptance of remains at the Office of Migrant Workers’ Affairs (OUMWA), 3/F DFA Main Building, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City or at any DFA Regional Consular Office.

For more information, please contact DFA-OUMWA at (02) 834-4996 or DFA-Cebu at (032) 520-5898.
