Makati police still clueless on identity of condo jumper

Mike Frialde - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Makati City Police on Wednesday asked the assistance of the media in identifying a man who allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the 29th floor of a service condominium in Makati City on Monday night.

Makati Police chief Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban described the man as around 40 years of age, “Japanese or Chinese-looking” and was wearing brown pants, a long-sleeved floral shirt and black leather sandals.

Police said the victim did not have any identification documents with him.

Police said the victim leapt from the 29th floor of the Asian Mansion condominium at the corner of Dela Rosa and Nieva streets at about 10 p.m.

Police said the victim first got snagged on high-tension wires as he was hurtling to the pavement. As a result of touching the high-tension wires, the victim’s right arm was severed and the condominium temporarily lost electricity.

According to police, an event was being held at the 29th floor of the condominium which was also its penthouse floor.

Lukban said the victim was captured by the condominium’s closed circuit television camera as he joined those going to the seminar in the elevator.

“They thought that he was also going to the seminar. But when the elevator opened, he left the group and went to the penthouse floor where there were no people around,” said Lukban.

Lukban said the victim did not speak Tagalog, according to those he had talked with in the elevator.

“We would like to ask the [help of the ] media in identifying him,” Lukban said.
