DPWH to probe P154.9-M overpriced infra projects

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson assured the public yesterday he would look into the Commission on Audit (COA) report showing that infrastructure projects of the agency in 2011 were overpriced by as much as P154.9 million.

Singson said he was not aware that there were such irregularities in 2011.

“I do not know the basis for this. I still have to see the basis of that report,” he said.

“We have been trying to conduct public biddings but if they are using a different unit cost, then the price of the project would naturally change. There is no perfect science in biddings. I still have to see what the report is all about,” he added.

The COA has reportedly asked the DPWH to order the contractors to refund or deduct the amount from the accounts that have yet to be paid by the government or from cash bonds.
