US firm hires Pinoy nurses for BPO jobs

MANILA, Philippines - A large business process outsourcing (BPO) company from the United States is hiring Filipino nurses with US license for BPO jobs here, a party-list lawmaker said yesterday.

“We welcome the new career opportunities for Filipino nurses being provided by Accenture,” Rep. Arnel Ty of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers Association said.

“We have many US-licensed nurses who are still here waiting for labor market conditions in America to improve. For now, working in the Philippines for companies like Accenture will enable these nurses to keep their practice active,” he said.

Ty has authored a bill that seeks to establish a special rural and urban employment program for jobless nurses.

The program aims to mobilize at least 10,000 nurses every year for deployment to poor and undeserved communities. They would serve a six-month duty and get a monthly stipend not lower than P24,887, which is the hiring rate for nursing staff in government hospitals.
