MANILA, Philippines - Four children two boys and two girls will graduate from kindergarten at a public school in the town of Kalayaan in the Spratly archipelago on April 15.
Officials from the Department of Education in Palawan will go to Kalayaan for the graduation ceremonies.
In a phone interview with The STAR, Kalayaan Mayor Eugenio Bito-onon Jr. said five pupils were originally enrolled in the kindergarten class.
“One dropped out because he joined his pregnant mother who returned to Puerto Princesa City to give birth,†he said.
The four pupils will become qualified to proceed to the preparatory level, he added.
Bito-onon said they will hire another teacher, Geraldine Edet, to teach a lone Grade one pupil, whose parents have decided to reside in Kalayaan town.
“Teacher Buncan has already sent a message inviting our DepEd officials from Puerto Princesa City to administer our first kindergarten graduation scheduled on Apirl 15,†he said.
The local government intends to put up a new school building with financial and material donations from foreign and local donors to include those coming from Southern California and Singapore, he added.
