SC junks disqualified partylist group's petition

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court has junked a petition filed by partylist group Worldwide Anti-Crime and Child Abuse Assistance Group Inc. (WACCAA) which has been disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

"The court resolved to deny with finality the [MR], there being no compelling reason to warrant the reversal of the questioned resolution," the SC said.

Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes, Jr. ordered last year the delisting of 37 party-list groups, including WACCAA.

The SC had already dismissed the petition, but the group sought for the high court's reconsideration.

The Comelec had said that the 37 partylist groups were disqualified because they do not represent marginalized and underrepresented sectors.
