Tech-voc grads offered more jobs

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Graduates of technical-vocational (tech-voc) course were offered jobs in 120 companies yesterday.

Director-general Joel Villanueva said the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) launched the Jobs Bridging Program in an effort to provide immediate employment for tech-voc graduates.

“We want tech-voc students to finish their respective courses with optimism because the opportunity for employment is here,” he said.

Villanueva said the program, dubbed “Hanap Buhay Para sa TESDA Specialista,” is just the first of a series of job bridging activities to help graduates find employment after finishing their respective courses.

About 120 companies brought their personnel to assess the credentials of the applicants for local and overseas jobs, he added.

Villanueva said more job bridging events are also scheduled in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other regions.

Other TESDA districts in the NCR will also hold their respective job bridging programs in Muntinlupa, Caloocan City, Manila, Pasay City and Pasig, he added.

Villanueva advised jobseekers to come prepared with documents like curriculum vitae, birth certificate, and relevant school records.

“Graduates should abandon stereotypes about certain jobs, and get into something where they can apply their skills,” he said.

“For example, it is best to throw out those outdated and distorted notion that jobs for tech-voc graduates are dirty and low-paying. These days, these types of jobs largely define the country’s economic landscape.”
