Freed peacekeepers to undergo post-traumatic stress debriefing - AFP

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) - The 21 Filipino peacekeepers released after days of abduction by Syrian rebels will undergo post-traumatic stress debriefing, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said today.

"As a matter of procedure, our peacekeepers will be given medical attention to make sure that they are truly well and healthy. Likewise, a quick security debriefing will also be conducted. Although they were given adequate stress management training prior their deployment, they will also undergo post-traumatic stress debriefing," said AFP spokesman Arnulfo Burgos Jr.

The spokesman said that the families of the 21 peacekeepers have already been informed of the good news.

He expressed hope for the safety of about 600 Filipino UN peacekeepers and military observers deployed in nine mission areas all over the world promoting peace and stability in conflict areas.

The 21 Filipino peacekeepers were seized Wednesday by Syrian rebels and were held in Jamlah village, near the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. The UN negotiated for their release.
