Sabah violence keeps Noy restless
SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines – The violence in Sabah stole the thunder from the Liberal Party (LP)’s campaign sortie here, with a restless President Aquino almost failing to show up on stage with his candidates.
The presidential helicopter arrived outside the Heroes Hall here for the LP public meeting at 2 p.m. but Aquino did not show up on stage when senatorial candidate Jamby Madrigal was speaking. Pampanga was a bailiwick of his predecessor, detained congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Emcee Leah Navarro announced the President was in the next room and was monitoring the Sabah situation.
The President appeared on stage half an hour later.
“Please bear with me if I had to go up and down, back and forth on the stage. I think all of you know what’s happening in Sabah right now. And it seems the incident has ended,†he told the crowd.
“We are still getting raw information and it seems the details are not yet complete. So I have to rush back to Manila and expect that all of the details and information we need have been laid out by the time I reach the office,†Aquino added. “By then, I think we will have more certainty about what really happened, and discuss what we need to discuss,†he said.
The Chief Executive then delivered a speech prepared for the event.
