Political undertones seen in Binay’s awarding of land titles

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Vice President Jejomar Binay’s awarding of land titles and lot awards to some 742 family beneficiaries of the government’s housing projects here had the inevitable political undertones.

For more than three hours before Binay arrived at the Baguio City Hall, the public address system was playing his campaign jingles in the last polls:  “Kay Binay, Gaganda Ang Buhay.”

Campaign calendars bearing the name and photograph of his daughter Nancy, a senatorial candidate for United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), were distributed to hundreds of land beneficiaries, mostly senior citizens.
