Authors fail to sponsor FOI bill

Paolo Romero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Authors were not able to sponsor the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill on the floor after session was suspended yesterday.

Congress has only seven session days left before adjourning on Feb. 6 for the campaign period.

Deputy Speaker Lorenzo Tañada III, one of the principal authors of the bill, said Iloilo Rep. Janet Garin moved to suspend the session after sensing that Davao del Sur Rep. Marc Douglas Cagas would move to question the quorum.

Cagas blocked the reading of a bill seeking to create the new province of Davao Occidental.

The referral to the archives of the bill was an item ahead of the sponsorship of the FOI Bill listed in the day’s Order of Business.

Cagas told The STAR he did not know that the sponsorship of the FOI bill was a casualty of his motion.
