US court case vs Dumlao seen to prosper

CHICAGO – With the name of former police Superintendent Glenn Dumlao being dragged into the Jan. 6 Atimonan killings, it may now be easier to pursue the $120-million US civil suit filed against him by the daughters of murdered publicist Bubby Dacer.

Dacer’s daughters Carina Dacer, Sabina Dacer-Reyes, Amparo Dacer-Henson and Emily Dacer-Hungerford have been struggling to serve summons on Dumlao, who was discharged from the double murder case they filed against the former police officer for the killing of their father and his driver Emmanuel Corbito more than a decade ago.

Reports earlier said Dumlao is one of the leaders of the case operational plan (Coplan) “Armado,” whose implementation led to the deaths of 13 men in an alleged shootout in Atimonan, Quezon province.

With the National Bureau of Investigation preparing to investigate Dumlao for the Atimonan killings, there is greater chance authorities would be able to serve the US court summons. Until it is served, only his co-respondent and former superior Michael Ray Aquino will be tried before US District Judge William Alsup of the Northern District of California on Jan. 28.

In December, a Manila court dismissed the double murder case against Aquino.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said they would appeal the decision.
