3 of 6 victims in Kawit rampage discharged from hospital

MANILA, Philippines - Three of six victims in a shooting rampage in Kawit, Cavite last week who were brought to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in Manila have already been discharged, a hospital official said yesterday.

But PGH communications head Felix Lukban refused to name the patients, citing confidentiality of patients’ information.

“Right now they are all stable. They are no longer on ventilator. Actually, three of the patients have already been discharged. Only those who underwent surgery remain confined. All I can say is that two of them are children while one is an adult. I am not saying any name because they are not saying that they want publicity right now,” he told The STAR.

Seven were killed while 10 were wounded when former barangay councilman Ronald Bae went on a shooting spree in a neighborhood in Kawit last Friday.

Lukban said that the patients are all being taken care of by the PGH.

“The surgeons also told me that they all have their own foundations in case the patients would need assistance. The PGH is concerned about their health and we are doing our best to help them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cavite Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla has allocated an initial P200,000 from his Priority Development Assistance Fund for the shooting victims at the PGH.

In a telephone interview, Remulla said that his brother, Cavite Gov. Juanito Victor Remulla, is also helping the victims through the province’s social welfare and development office.

“I am coordinating with my brother’s office regarding the payables. Of course, we don’t want the victims and their families to be burdened (by their medical needs). We’ll be helping the families in any way we can,” Remulla added.
