MANILA, Philippines - Where’s the money?
A woman who claimed the remains of a police official killed in a shootout last Sunday in Quezon said the policeman was supposed to be escorting a large amount of cash collected from small town lottery operations in Bicol.
It was not clear if the woman is the widow or girlfriend of police Superintendent Alfredo Consemino. She did not mention a specific amount of cash, but a security officer said it was “more or less†P100 million.
The woman talked to journalists early yesterday morning at the Funeraria Pagbilao where Consemino’s remains were taken.
She said relatives of the other slain men would issue a statement shortly and seek an investigation from the Department of Justice.
She later clammed up and refused to provide even her first name. Consemino’s fiancé is named Susan.
An intelligence officer who asked not to be named said the cash was in the two sport utility vehicles that figured in the shootout. All the passengers were killed.
