Fr. Reuter to be buried tomorrow

MANILA, Philippines - Fr. James Reuter will be laid to rest tomorrow.

Reuter, who died last Dec. 31 at the age of 96, will be buried at the Sacred Heart Novitiate Jesuit Cemetery after a Mass at the Church of the Gesù at the Ateneo campus in Loyola Heights, Quezon City.

The remains of the Jesuit missionary were brought to the Ateneo de Manila University’s Church of the Gesù yesterday.

Masses will be held at 8 p.m. until today.

Reuter entered the congregation of the Society of Jesus at the Novitiate of St. Isaac Jogues in Wernersville, Pennsylvania on Sept. 7, 1934 and was ordained a priest on March 24, 1946.

He was a former columnist of The Philippine STAR and was known for his promotion of the “Family Rosary Crusade,” or the praying of the rosary by families everyday.

He was a Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts in 1986 and was granted by both houses of Congress with honorary Filipino citizenship in 2006.
