Classes resume even in ‘Pablo’-hit areas

Rainier Allan Ronda - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Classes resumed yesterday in all public schools, including in areas devastated by typhoon “Pablo” in Mindanao.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro visited several schools in the Pablo-hit areas and joined the flag-raising ceremony at Boston Elementary School in Davao Oriental.

Luistro earlier said the Department of Education (DepEd) wanted schools in areas hit by Pablo to resume classes so that students could feel that life is getting back to normal.

He said it would also allow government to give counseling sessions to children traumatized by the typhoon damage.

Luistro said DepEd distributed special modules in typhoon-hit areas to help students cope with trauma.

Tina Ganzon, DepEd communications unit director, said they are waiting for reports from Region 11 and 13 regarding schools that suffered significant damage and classes did not resume yet.

Ganzon said classes would resume on Monday in these schools and those that are still being cleaned up.
