Good weather till New Year’s Day

MANILA, Philippines - No weather disturbance is expected to affect the country until tomorrow, New Year’s Day, aside from isolated light rains brought by the northeast monsoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.

PAGASA administrator Nathaniel Servando said good weather will prevail in the country, except in the northeastern part which will experience light rains due to the northeast monsoon.

Robert Sawi, PAGASA weather division chief, said the eastern section of Luzon, particularly the Bicol and Cagayan Valley regions, will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, on the other hand, will be partly cloudy with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Sawi said rains will prevail over Mindanao beginning Jan. 2 to Jan. 4 due to the approaching low-pressure area.

Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley – the two areas devastated by typhoon “Pablo” early this month – will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated light to moderate rains (one to five millimeters per hour) today.

The areas will be partly cloudy to cloudy with occasional light to moderate rains (two to seven mm/hr) tomorrow until Wednesday.

The low-pressure area, Sawi said, is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next three days.

The weather bureau, meanwhile, alerted the public in Northern, Central and Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas against big waves.

It said Northern, Central and Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas will have “rough to very rough seas.”
