Mikey files COC for GMA

- Ding Cervantes - The Philippine Star

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines – Ang Galing Pinoy party-list Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo filed yesterday a certificate of candidacy (COC) on behalf of his mother, former President and now Pampanga second district Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who is seeking reelection.

“We will cross the bridge when we get there,” said Mikey, when asked if the former president’s health would affect her performance.

“You should ask her doctors,” he added, when asked about Arroyo’s condition.

Mikey said the physical presence of the former president is not needed in delivering services.

A candidate for councilor in Porac said Arroyo met with local candidates and Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay over lunch at the Plates and Platters Restaurant in Guagua.

The candidate, who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to issue any statement on behalf of Arroyo, said the former president did not deliver any message and appeared to be unwell.

Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial supervisor Lydia Pangilinan said Mikey had authorization to file the COC of his mother.

Some 30 supporters, including old folks wearing T-shirts marked with “We love CGMA” and members of Banda 31 from Sasmuan town, arrived at the Comelec office here at around 1 p.m.

Mikey, together with the children of Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda, including Dennis who is reportedly the running mate of Pineda, and his sister Lubao Mayor Mylene Pineda-Cayabyab, arrived at around 2:30 p.m.

Mikey said he is not running in next year’s elections, but promised to campaign for his mother and her allies.

“My family is happy about my leaving politics,” he said.
