Transport group seeks P2 jeepney fare hike
MANILA, Philippines - The Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO) filed yesterday at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) a petition for a P2 increase in the minimum fare of passenger jeepneys, from the current P8 to P10.
Efren de Luna, ACTO president, said that with the pump price of diesel now at P45.55, the demand of jeepney operators and drivers for a fare increase is very reasonable.
The P10 minimum fare covers the first four kilometers.
ACTO is also seeking a hike in the fare for succeeding kilometers after the first four kilometers, from the current P1.40 to P1.75.
“It’s not only the high price of fuel, but the price of spare parts that has also gone up, and there are the myriad fees we pay to the Land Transportation Office and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and local government unit taxes and the EVAT (expanded value added tax),” De Luna said.
