Another long weekend
MANILA, Philippines - Filipinos can enjoy another long weekend as Aug. 27, National Heroes’ Day, falls on Monday.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) yesterday reminded employers to pay rightful wages to workers who opt to render services on Monday.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said workers are entitled to receive double their daily basic pay or a total of 200 percent if they report for work.
“The employee is entitled to 200 percent of his basic wage on the first eight hours and an additional 30 percent of hourly rate for work in excess of eight hours,” she said.
Baldoz noted that even those who would choose not to report for work are still entitled to 100 percent of the regular daily rate, provided they were present or on leave with pay on the workday immediately preceding the holiday.
Those who are supposed to take their day-off, but were required to work will receive 260 percent of their daily rate on the first eight hours, plus 30 percent of his or her hourly rate for work rendered in excess of eight hours on that day.
In case the day immediately preceding the holiday is a non-working day or is the scheduled rest day of the employee, the employee shall not be deemed on leave on that day, in which case he or she shall be entitled to the regular holiday pay. Malacañang earlier declared Aug. 27 as a regular holiday to give Filipinos time to celebrate National Heroes’ Day.
