MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay believes President Aquino has nothing to do with the alleged demolition job that the Commission on Audit (COA) is perpetrating against him.
However, Binay challenged COA commissioner Heidi Mendoza to come clean on the matter.
“Her silence is totally out of character,” he said.
Binay said while he appreciates the statement of COA chairman Grace Pulido-Tan, Mendoza should come out and explain her actions.
“Commissioner Mendoza should explain her obsessive interest in Makati, particularly the programs during my term as mayor,” he said.
Binay said the COA had already audited and cleared the Makati Friendship Suites implemented during his administration as mayor of Makati.
“The COA has investigated us during the time of Mrs. (former President Gloria Macapagal) Arroyo,” he said.
“And even when the administration is angry with us, we were able to explain our side. We have also explained well the allegations against us and we were not charged.”
Earlier, Binay said the auditing of his projects during the 23 years that he was mayor of Makati that Mendoza had initiated is part of a demolition campaign against him.
It was apparently part of a plan to “take him out” by December, he added.
Binay declined to identify the people behind the smear campaign against him.
