Noy gives economic chiefs 2 weeks to review Cha-cha

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has given his economic managers two weeks to review the implications of Charter change.

Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima yesterday said the economic team would also be consulting with multilateral agencies like the World Bank on what the laws are in other countries.

“We will report back to the President,” he said. “We have to consult with the private sector. We have to do our homework and do our research first.”

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 108th anniversary of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Purisima said the economic team is expected to report back to the President in two weeks.

“The President gave us two weeks,” he said.

Citizens’ Battle Against Corruption Rep. Sherwin Tugna believes Charter change would further boost the economy.

“With the power of social media, everyone can give their two-cents worth on this issue,” he said.

“We have seen this through the JBC interviews where people were able to field questions to the nominees through email or Twitter. We can do that here as well.  – Iris Gonzales, Louella Desiderio, Paolo Romero
