MANILA, Philippines - A group of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) has urged President Aquino to show his objection to any attempt to change the Constitution.
John Leonard Monterona, Migrante Middle East regional coordinator, said Aquino should not play coy and be clear in his position against proposals to amend the Charter.
“The Aquino government must be clear and firm on his position about any Charter change moves as the real motive is not out of a genuine desire to effectively and efficiently govern and effect real changes, but rather due to external or outside imposition which the Aquino government had committed itself in the international trade community led by the United States,” he said.
Monterona said the government must not allow the US to totally penetrate into the Philippine economy with the amendment of restrictive economic provisions of the Constitution, for this would lead to further displacement of workers.
Nobody would believe the claim of Malacañang that Aquino cannot stop moves to amend the Constitution, Monterona said.
