MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Senate President Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile were the top three senators perceived by Filipinos to have done “good” work during the impeachment trial of former chief justice Renato Corona, a recent survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) showed.
Santiago obtained 51 percent, followed by Estrada and Enrile with 18 percent each, based on a commissioned survey, a copy of which was sent to The STAR.
The SWS asked the respondents to give the names of the senators “who did good work in the impeachment trial.” The pollster allowed them to give multiple names.
Senators Ramon Revilla Jr. got 10 percent, followed by Francis Escudero (nine percent), Lito Lapid (eigth percent), Alan Peter Cayetano (eight percent), Vicente Sotto III (six percent), Franklin Drilon (five percent), Pia Cayetano (four percent); Antonio Trillanes IV (three percent); Panfilo Lacson (three percent); Manny Villar (two percent), and Teofisto Guingona III, Francis Pangilinan, Loren Legarda, Joker Arroyo, Aquilino Pimentel III and Gringo Honasan with one percent each.
The senators who received less than one percent were Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (0.4 percent), Serge Osmeña (0.4 percent), Ralph Recto (0.3 percent), and Edgardo Angara (0.2 percent).
Three percent of the respondents provided other names other than the 23 senators; 10 percent did not provide any name while 12 percent refused to give names or had no answer.
The survey was included in the SWS First Quarter of 2012 Social Weather Report, which was conducted from March 10 to 13.
The Senate impeachment court handed a guilty verdict on Corona on May 29 for culpable violation of the Constitution and betrayal of public trust after failing to disclose his wealth in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth or SALN.
