MANILA, Philippines - Former Muntinlupa City Mayor Santiago Carlos Jr. was wounded after four men in the city allegedly attacked him last Saturday.
Cruz said the incident took place at around 12:20 a.m. last Saturday at Uding Compound, East Service Road, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
PO2 Adonis Dimapiles of the Police Station Operation Center said Carlos, 72, suffered stab wounds in his left arm and immediately taken to a nearby hospital.
The motive of the attack was not yet clear but initial investigation showed Carlos prevented the suspects from entering the compound.
Doctors later declared him in safe condi- tion and he was allowed to go home.
Police said they would still see the former mayor to find out what really happened.
Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., head of the PNP-Police Community Relations Group, said the four suspects, identified as Edito Libreza, Marleo Sales, Tirso Retum, and Cris Talapian, were arrested and detained at the Muntinlupa City Police Station.
Carlos served as mayor for only 11 months from 1985 to 1986 after Maximino Argana, who was then the mayor, died of heart attack.
After the EDSA revolution in 1986, Carlos was replaced by Victor Aguinaldo.
