State-of-the-art CCTV system to watch over SLEX

MANILA, Philippines - All-weather, state-of-the-art closed-circuit Television (CCTV) cameras as well as speed sensors are now in place at the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to allow close monitoring of traffic flow and ensure quick response to motorists, especially during heavy rains and emergencies, and guard against reckless driving.

The rotating cameras are now positioned at predetermined points to complement regular patrols along the busy route during the rainy season.

SLEX operator South Luzon Tollways Corp. (SLTC) president Shadik Wahono said PTZ (pan tilt zoom) cameras will be on 24 hours a day, seven days a week and linked directly to the Traffic Control Center (TCC) monitoring the SLEX from Alabang viaduct to Calamba City in Laguna and extending to Sto. Tomas, Batangas.

“The cameras are an integral part of our traffic monitoring system and these complement our regular patrols at the SLEX,” he said.

“With these, we are able to constantly monitor movement of motorists, traffic situations and incidents for immediate coordination with field personnel, emergency medical services, PNP-HPG (Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group), Bureau of Fire Protection and other concerned government and non-government agencies.”

SLTC is the concession holder of SLEX.

Acquired in 2010, the PTZ cameras, located one kilometer apart along the whole stretch of SLEX, can rotate 360 degrees and have an effective range of two kilometers.
