MANILA, Philippines - The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on Monday approved live coverage of the public interviews of candidates for Chief Justice.
Sen. Francis Escudero, a member of the JBC, said that the executive committee will meet again on Thursday to set rules and guidelines for the live coverage of the public interviews.
Escudero, meanwhile, said that members of the JBC have also agreed to extend to July 2 the submission of the nomination for the position of chief justice.
The submission's deadline was supposed to end today, Monday, June 18, 2012.
Escudero said that the JBC is also moving the target date of submission of the short list of candidates to President Benigno Aquino III to July 30.
The senator said that the JBC decided to extend the submission days due to the clamor of some sectors for the council to give more time to nominate other individuals to the post.
He said that as of Monday, there were already 32 nominees for chief justice. -- Dennis Carcamo
