Switzerland envoy sees better business opportunities in Phl

MANILA, Philippines - Switzerland’s top diplomat in the Philippines acknowledged yesterday the opportunities and positive developments in the country, saying these are encouraging signs to the business community.

At the launching of activities to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of official relations between Switzerland and the Philippines, Ambassador Ivo Sieber said business activity in the country is dynamic and encouraging.

“Efforts undertaken by the government to be more transparent, to be more efficient to cut red tape for the business community... also President Aquino’s fight against corruption and better transparency in the public sector (and) the private sector, are very encouraging signs. And the steps taken are considered positive by the business community,” Sieber said.

Trade and investment relations flourish with Switzerland as one of the top 10 investors in the Philippines.

The Swiss embassy will undertake a number of activities to highlight the long history and many facets of Swiss-Philippine relations.

With some of the Swiss companies having established their presence in the Philippines more than a century ago, Switzerland remains as one of the country’s foremost investors. Employing thousands of Filipino staff are Swiss firms Nestlé and Holcim.
