MANILA, Philippines - The prosecution has decried what it described as a “double standard” of the Supreme Court for allowing the appearance of chief judicial staff officer Araceli Bayuga before the impeachment court.
Prosecution panel member Rep. Neri Colmenares of Bayan Muna said that while the high court allowed Bayuga to testify for the camp of Chief Justice Renato Corona, “it blocked the attempts of the prosecution to get pieces of evidence and witnesses from the court.”
“It even blocked a driver and a security guard to testify (for the prosecution), when evidently they are not covered by judicial privilege. CJ Corona has no interest in the truth, only in covering it up,” he said.
Sen. Francis Pangilinan complained that the Supreme Court appears to be choosy in allowing or prohibiting its personnel from testifying in Corona’s trial.
