Prosecution spokesman denies owning P15-M house in QC

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

MANILA, Philippines - Prosecution spokesman Marikina City Rep. Romero Quimbo yesterday vehemently denied owning a multimillion house inside a posh subdivision in Quezon City.

“I absolutely deny owning that house,” Quimbo told a press briefing at the Senate.

Quimbo said he is ready to prove that he is not the owner of the P15-million house in Varsity Hills, Quezon City, which was reported by a daily broadsheet yesterday.

He said the story is libelous and has no basis.

Quimbo said the writer can check with the barangay captain of Loyola Heights, Quezon City, where Varsity Hills is located, the city assessor and other offices issuing building permits, as well as with the registrar of deeds of Quezon City if he really owns the house.

He said the defense panel continues to resort to squid tactics and black propaganda against the members of the prosecution to divert the attention of the public from the impeachment proceedings.

“They (defense) started it with (Iloilo Rep. Niel) Tupas, next week it will be Erin (Quezon Rep. Lorenzo Tañada III) or Sonny (Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara),” Quimbo said.

He lamented that the writer did not bother to confirm the veracity of the story.

The newspaper reported yesterday that the three-story house located at 152 B. Gonzales St., Varsity Hills, Loyola Heights, Quezon City, was acquired by Quimbo sometime middle of last year, around the same time Tupas claimed he acquired his P14.5-million property in Xavierville, another subdivision adjacent to Varsity Hills.
