Flashfloods, landslides threaten Mindanao
MANILA, Philippines - Flashfloods and landslides from a wind convergence continue to threaten some areas in Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said yesterday.
PAGASA said the wind convergence will bring mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in Eastern and Southern Mindanao, becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Davao provinces, Compostela Valley and South Cotabato which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
PAGASA administrator Nathaniel Servando said the wind convergence will also bring rains over the Bicol region in the next three days.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy with isolated rains, he said.
Metro Manila will have good weather condition aside from isolated rainshowers, Servando said.
Servando said no tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country this week.
Meanwhile, the PAGASA chief said cooler weather, especially in the morning, will prevail over the country until the third week of February.
Yesterday, the lowest temperature recorded in Baguio City was 11.4 degrees Celsius and 21.3 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila.
Servando said the public may also experience warm weather this month during “break” periods.
