MANILA, Philippines - Portions of Roxas Boulevard and Binondo in Manila shall be closed to motor vehicles on Sunday for the eve of Chinese New Year.
Independence Road in Luneta will be closed from 6 a.m. onwards, while Katigbak Drive and South Drive leading to Quirino Grandstand will be totally closed to all vehicles from 8 a.m.
Meanwhile, in the Binondo district, home to large numbers of ethnic Chinese, the stretch of Ongpin from Quintin Paredes to Sabino Padilla street will be closed from midnight Saturday to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Tents will be set upon Ongpin street to showcase Chinese culture and tradition such as: Chinese calligraphy, fan painting, paper cutting and paper folding, abacus demo, chess demonstration, feng shui and fortune telling, lantern display, acupuncture, dragon and lion dances and wushu exhibitions.
There will also be a dance competition among participating schools, a Zumba dance session, Chinese cultural dances, tai-chi exhibition, diobolo or Chinese yoyo demonstration and other song and dance numbers.
