MANILA, Philippines - Labor Undersecretary Hans Cacdac is the new head of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) beginning on Monday.
Government officials, who declined to be identified, said Cacdac had already taken his oath before Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz weeks ago.
Cacdac, who previously served as POEA deputy administrator, would replace outgoing administrator Carlos Cao Jr., who headed the POEA over a year ago.
Cao was allegedly removed from his post because of poor performance.
In a previous interview, Cao said there was no justifiable reason for his removal.
As labor undersecretary, Cacdac worked for the adoption of the International Convention on Domestic Workers in Geneva.
Rebecca Chato, former head of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE’s) Bureau of Labor Relations is filling in the position vacated by Cacdac. Labor groups welcomed her appointment.
