Metrobank Group reaps 12 Quills

MANILA, Philippines - • The Metrobank Group of Companies emerged as one of the most awarded companies in the 10th Philippine Quill Awards by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) held last Nov. 28 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila. Metrobank, Metrobank Foundation (MBFI), and Manila Doctors Hospital (MDH) received a total of 12 Quill Awards composed of four Awards of Excellence; six Awards of Merit; and two Finalists. To be awarded with the Philippine Quill means being recognized as an achiever of the highest Global Standard for business communication practices, joining a select group of professionals who set the standards of excellence.

Awarded with Award of Excellence is the Group’s program “2011 Chinese New Year Bags of Blessing (BOB)” - aimed at celebrating the occasion of Chinese New Year as an opportunity to share blessings with underprivileged families through a P10 million donation worth of food packages to select 10,000 families in identified 17 areas nationwide. The event marked another milestone for the Metrobank Group which worked with the government and various local government units bringing together its subsidiaries, affiliates, and employee volunteers, necessary to make this nationwide endeavor a success.

Bringing home another two (2) Awards of Excellence is “You’re in Green Hands” a nationwide simultaneous tree planting activity in line with the celebration of CSR Week last July. It covered nine (9) sites from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao mobilizing thousands of employee volunteers of the Metrobank Group and engaging institutional partners such as DENR and cooperating local government units. A total of 17,490 seedlings of endemic species were planted by the volunteers.

Meanwhile, MDH’s “Pause for Patients’ Safety” bagged an Award of Excellence. The program instituted a system in the hospital which encourages doctors and nurses in the Operating Room to utilize the Patient Safety Checklist (PSC). This is a tool used in surgical procedures composed of sets of verifications performed throughout the entire operative process. The checklist ensures that the patients’ safety is prioritized during surgical/medical procedures.

“These awards from the country’s most prestigious award for business communicators bring pride and honor to us making our humble contributions to nation-building relevant and meaningful,” said MBFI president Aniceto M. Sobrepeña. “The five awards garnered by MDH are auspicious as we celebrate our 55th anniversary this coming Dec. 8,” he continued.
