Malacañang vows justice, protection for wounded radioman
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang yesterday said that justice and protection will be given to a radioman who was shot and injured in an ambush in Cagayan de Oro City last Thursday.
Michael James Licuanan, anchor and reporter of Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro’s “Zona Libre” commentary program, survived the attack.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte also said that the Palace would cooperate in the moves to stop the killings of journalists.
Valte said the Philippine National Police (PNP) was updating them on the ongoing investigation of the incident.
“And at no point do we tolerate (these attacks) especially if these were motivated (against the person’s) work as reporter. We do not condone nor do we tolerate attacks like these,” Valte said.
She added they were monitoring the stages of the investigation “but we have been coordinating with the PNP on this matter and hopefully there will be identification and apprehension of the suspects.”
The colleagues of the victim expressed fears that the assailants would still go after him since they failed to kill him. – Ben Serrano
