Makati honors Shamcey with ticker tape parade tomorrow
MANILA, Philippines - The Makati City government has set up a ticker tape parade at Ayala Avenue tomorrow in honor of Miss Universe third runner-up Shamcey Supsup.
Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay said the city government has organized a tribute for Supsup including a visit around 3:30 p.m. to her high school alma mater, the Makati High School, where she graduated salutatorian in 2003.
Binay said from there, Supsup will proceed to the Makati Central Fire Station located at the corner of Ayala Avenue and Malugay Street, the staging area for the parade that will traverse the entire stretch of Ayala Avenue up to EDSA.
“We urge everyone, including our residents and the business community, to join the parade and give a rousing welcome to Ms. Shamcey Supsup who has made us truly proud. It is our own way of expressing our admiration and gratitude for the great honor she has brought to Makati, to our country, and to all Filipinos,” Binay said.
Binay cited that Supsup was a sophomore transferee at Makati High School where she shone not only academically but also in extra-curricular activities.
Supsup was an active member of the Supreme Student Council.
She was also sent to Japan as an exchange scholar for school year 2001-2002 and had been the school representative in various leadership seminars.
“With her scholastic achievements and impressive performance at the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant, Ms. Shamcey Supsup has become a role model to the youth. I am sure she has inspired countless young students, especially Makati public students, to strive for excellence and pursue their dreams with passion and determination,” Binay said.
Apparently destined to become a beauty queen, Supsup won in various beauty competitions in high school, such as the Lakambini ng Aklatan, and was a favorite muse in their school’s intramurals and promenades.
The beauty queen was born on May 16, 1986 in General Santos.
She is a licensed architect and topped the Architecture Licensure Examination in July 2010 after graduating magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines - Diliman.
She placed third runner-up in the recently concluded Miss Universe beauty pageant held in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
