Romulo asks Shalani: Marry me

MANILA, Philippines - Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo has asked Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad to marry him with the wedding set early next year.

Romulo bared the engagement following reports yesterday that Soledad was seen wearing a diamond ring. His sister, Agriculture Undersecretary Berna Romulo-Puyat, told reporters at the House of Representatives that the family welcomed the engagement.

The 44-year-old bachelor said he gave the ring and popped the question to her last week and he has never been happier.

It was said that the proposal happened at the Our Lady of Fatima church in Valenzuela City.

“I’ve found the one I want to spend the rest of my life with,” Romulo told The STAR in a telephone interview.

“Some may say it is too soon, but I think we’re both old enough to know want we want in life.”

He said he and Soledad could talk for hours just about anything and they never get tired of each other. They also regularly visit the Quiapo Church.

Berna said Soledad was well-liked by the Romulo family since she was introduced to them over dinner some weeks ago.

“We like her, so far she’s okay,” Berna said.

She said Soledad is the first woman he has introduced to the family in four years.

“He doesn’t bring women to the house unless he is serious. The last time he introduced somebody to us was four years ago, Lisa Gokongwei,” Berna said.

She said their mother also appreciated the fact that Soledad hails from a city that was named after revolutionary hero, Pio Valenzuela, the Romulo matriarch’s grandfather.

Romulo regularly fetches Soledad from the TV5 studio after every episode of her game shows with host Willie Revillame.
