POEA warns OFWs seeking work in Guam
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said yesterday that the deployment of migrant workers to Guam for the renovation of the United States military base there has been moved to next year.
In an interview over dzRH radio, POEA administrator Carlos Cao Jr. said those who are aspiring to work in the military facility should not fall prey to unscrupulous recruiters who are claiming that the rehabilitation works would commence this year as planned.
“I have already issued advisories warning OFWs that there is already a deployment in Guam. There are some deployments in Guam, but not for the rehabilitation of the US bases,” Cao said.
The US had planned to relocate its military base in Japan to Guam late this year, but decided to postpone it due to the nuclear crisis in Fukushima, Japan as a result of an earthquake there last March.
