Manila, Philippines - Commission on Audit chairperson Grace Tan said yesterday the Philippines won the position of external auditor of the World Health Organization besting Germany, France, Spain and Malaysia.
“We were number one in the first round, then beat Germany 74-62 in the runoff. We are very happy for the credibility of COA being restored and its resurgence in international community. Thanks for your support,” Tan said in a statement sent to presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
Lacierda said it was the first time for the Philippines to win the WHO post.
He said the Philippines under the previous COA chairman got only 18 votes while the winner, India, got 80.
